Health Assistance

Medicaid is a program of coverage or medical care financed through state and federal funding. Persons found eligible for this program may have all or part of their medical expenses paid depending on their income. Once an individual is found eligible for this program, their coverage under Medicaid includes prescription medications, nursing home care and all medical services.

Medicaid consists of two primary categories:

Healthy Start / Healthy Families - Medicaid under this category is targeted toward pregnant women, children and families with children.

Medicaid for the Aged Blind or Disabled - Medicaid under this category is targeted toward the aged (65 or older), blind, or disabled. Coverage may include help with paying Medicare premiums, assisted living or nursing home placement.

HealthChek

Children in receipt of Medicaid are also eligible for HealthChek. HealthChek promotes prevention, detection, and treatment services for Medicaid recipients under the age of 21. Services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Nutrition assessment
  • Vision exam
  • Eyeglasses, if needed
  • Hearing exam
  • Hearing Aids, if needed
  • Dental exam
  • Immunization assessment
  • Lead poisoning test
  • Physical exam

Other health care services, including treatment for children with disabilities or chronic care needs.

Pregnancy Related Services (PRS)

Pregnant women in receipt of Medicaid are also eligible for Pregnancy Related Services (PRS). PRS promotes prenatal care of medicaid recipients for a successful pregnancy and birth. Services may include, but are not limited to:

  • Transportation to medical appointments
  • Assistance in finding a physician and/or making appointments
  • Referrals to other agencies or organizations
  • Education regarding newborn care
  • Information for expectant mothers
